Posted on 17th April 2009
Alco Glass manufacturers of specialist glazing concepts are pleased to announce the completion of its largest 'Wintergarden' project to date. Wembley City (WO 1) is part of a large regeneration project located within a stone’s throw of the famous Wembley Stadium and Wembley Arena.
This £41.9m development of private and affordable housing comprising of 286 high quality residential apartments. Working in conjunction with PRP Architects (London), and building contractor John Sisk & Son, for Quintain Estates & Development, the project introduces a new dimension in the use of glass for balconies and has helped to harness solar gain, reducing CO2 emissions plus assisting in the acoustic performance within the apartments. Residents can now enjoy the use of their balconies at all times of the year, providing valuable added usable space, plus having the advantages of energy savings and noise reduction because of the creation of a 'Wintergarden'.
Estate Agents confirmed that 'Wintergardens' will significantly add more value to each property than they cost to install. Alco Glass designed and installed sixty 'Wintergardens' to balconies using its exclusive Glassmarte GM Toproll 10/14 system. These were mounted on a pre fabricated balustrade with twin and triple tracks ensuring flexible movement of the 10mm toughened /heat soak glass. On the North Elevation, 'Wintergardens' to 24 apartments had full height Glassmarte Toproll 15/24 with anodised aluminium profiles straight sliding on twin tracks. Toughened /laminated 21.5 mm glass was used to meet a wind load of 1.84 KN/M2.
